The Band Bio
The music of
Carin Mari & Pony Express embodies the spirit of Western Music!
Carin's original songs and fresh arrangements of the classics, which
feature warm harmonies and pure yodeling along with superb
musicianship, have won the group numerous awards, including North
America Country Music Association, International - 2009 Entertainer of
the Year for Traditional Country, which Carin won with Cowboy Songs!
Carin and her brothers were also named Colorado Country Music's - Best
Western Band! Carin (18) is a national yodeling champion and
accomplished guitarist, her older brother Colin (20) plays the mandolin
and is a certified audio engineer. Their younger brother, Evan (16)
plays the bass guitar. They have a respect for the traditional western
sound, but strive to create their own refreshing sound that appeals to
the lovers of the traditional western music, as well as those new to
the genre.
The band
released their newest CD - “LIFE * LOVE * LEGENDS” on July 3rd. It
features three of Carin’s original songs, including "Always
A Road" - the song that won Carin the title of "2009 Songwriter of the
Year" from the NACMAI. "Follow the Trail" features seven of Carin's
original songs and was named "Best Western Album for 2008" by the
Colorado Country Music Association.
In 2001 Michael Martin Murphey suggested that Carin learn "I Want to be a Cowboy's Sweetheart", and Western
music quickly became her passion, and fit her lifestyle perfectly,
since she was already an avid rider with a love for the western way of
life. Michael has been her inspiration and mentor, giving Carin
and her brothers numerous opportunities to perform with his band at various venues. They've
had many highlights in their career, but performing as special guests
with MMM at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering on Carin's 13th
birthday was a definite favorite. They got to be a part of history at
the John Wayne Centennial Celebration in his birthplace of Winterset,
Iowa, and again in 2009. The band was also honored to play for the
“Route 66 Inaugural Ball” in 2005 at the Smithsonian National Museum
for the American Indian in Washington D.C. They enjoy playing for a
wide variety of venues around the country, but there's no place like
home in Buena Vista, Colorado.
The future of Western Music is safe in the hands of this trio!
Carin
A songwriter from the heart, the
music of Carin Mari
embodies the spirit of Western Music! Her original songs, obscure song
selections, and fresh arrangements of the classics feature crystal clear
vocals, pure yodeling, and superb musicianship. After nine years of
continued
dedication, these talents have won her numerous awards, including 2009
Entertainer, Songwriter, and Female Vocalist of the Year. Carin has
been playing in a band with
her two brothers for the past six years, “Carin Mari & Pony Express”
and
they were named Colorado Country Music's - Best Western Band! The three
siblings have traveled coast to coast playing their music and have been
shipping their sound worldwide.
Carin (18) is also a national yodeling champion and has been self-driven
to become a very accomplished guitarist. With a deep respect and love
for the
traditional western music sound, she still strives to create her own
refreshing
sound that appeals to the lovers of the traditional western music, as
well as
those new to the genre. Born and
raised in Colorado, Carin finds a lot of her song writing inspiration
from the
land she has grown up on; along with her family and home life. She
believes the best songs come from
what you know, therefore; she does not pretend to know it all, and
writes what
comes from the heart.

Carin started taking college classes at fifteen at Colorado Mountain College and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, although she officially graduated from high school in 2009. She transferred to South Plains College in Levelland, Texas in the Spring of 2010 and is majoring in Commercial Music - Voice and Guitar. She made the President's list!
She is passionate about training her horses and dancing.
Her artistic talent is not limited to music; it is evident in her bead
work and custom wire jewelry designs.
Colin
The mandolin is
the instrument of choice for Colin, who has been developing his own
self-taught style for about 7 years. He successfully completed his
classes at the Recording Workshop (REC) in Chillicothe, Ohio in
February of 2008. He is now a Certified Audio Engineer and is pursuing
his music career.
His early community theater experience has
proven to be very valuable and has given him a 'no fear' casual
confidence. He graduated from Colorado Mountain College in the Spring
of 2009. He is currently pursuing a Theater Tech degree at Mesa
State College in Grand Junction, Colorado and works as the sound
engineer for the Mesa State Theater Department.
Colin spends most of his spare time studying the finer aspects of movies and music.

Evan
Sixteen-year-old Evan has been playing bass guitar with the band for
about six years now and has expanded his musical talents and skills by
learning how to play the upright bass. Home schooling allows him to
spend lots of time with his two Border Collies. He is currently
training the younger of the two dogs to be a fierce competitor in
Freestyle Disc and dog Agility. Evan is not only talented in music, he
is also an excellent sportsman and enjoys playing baseball, riding
horses, and fishing. In his spare time, he enjoys indulging his
creative side by forging knives, woodworking, and tying flies. This
young man is truly a native Coloradan with his passion for the
outdoors; after all his dream vacation is flying to a remote area to
fly-fish and camp.
